PROJECT TITLE: Lower Colorado River Riparian Enhancement on Public Lands

DESCRIPTION: Since 1985, the Bureau of Land Management - Yuma and Havasu Resource Areas - have attempted to restore and improve riparian areas along the Lower Colorado River through the removal of non-native salt cedar (Tamarix chinensis) and the planting of native trees including cottonwood (Populus fremontii), willow (Salix niger), screwbean and honey mesquite (Prosopis pubescens and P. juliflora). Although survival has been limited, best success has occurred when cottonwood and willow pole cuttings were placed in holes drilled to the water table.
